Parents of students, in private schools in Dubai and Sharjah, confirmed the refusal of their children's schools to pay their children's bus fees for the third semester, although students have not benefited from the school transport service, since the decision to convert the study to "learning from the distance", due to the "Corona" pandemic.

They called on state stakeholders to monitor the financial performance of schools, as well as their educational performance.

According to the Dubai Knowledge and Human Development Authority, students are entitled to a refund of school transportation fees for the third semester, if they pay them, and are not required to pay them under the Ministry of Education's decision to implement the "Learning About Distance" system, from the beginning of the third semester until the end of the current academic year, for students of different educational stages, at the state level.

The Sharjah Special Education Authority also directed private school administrations in Sharjah to return transportation fees and school canteens for the third semester, while school administrations could not be reached for a response.

The parents of students: Dalia Jamal, Mr. Abdul Hamid and Fatima Saif, emirates today, reported that they had reached out to the management of their children's school in Dubai, which adopts the American curriculum, to recover school bus fees, because their children have not benefited from this service since the beginning of the third semester, but they were surprised that the school refused to refund them, on the grounds that they are obliged to pay the salaries of drivers and bus supervisors.

The parents of the students explained that the school had no right to refrain from reinstatement of the fees for services it did not regulate, and their children did not benefit from them, especially school bus fees.

They said that the reason students did not benefit from the services was the health conditions of the state and the world, not their reluctance to use them. In other cases, the government has not taken any action to protect the community from the spread of the new Coronavirus (Coved-19).

They called on the Knowledge and Human Development Authority in Dubai to have more control over schools, including financial aspects and school service fees, especially in the current circumstances, which have seen the income of many families negatively affected, to the extent that they are unable to pay the remaining tuition.

The father of a student, in a private school, said that the school administration refused to refund the school bus fees for the third semester, and informed the parents of the students that it will charge part of the tuition fees for the next academic year, adding that "the school did not discuss us in its decision, as there are probably families that do not want their children to continue to study in school."

The father of two students, at a private school, said that the school administration asked him to sign a declaration that he would transfer his daughters from another school, so that he could receive school bus fees for the third semester, adding that he had completed their registration procedures at another school, but could not recover the bus fees until he signed the declaration.

On the other hand, parents of students in Dubai have received letters from their children's school administrations inviting them to audit, to recover part of the private bus fees, or to calculate them in bus fees for the next academic year.

The Sharjah Special Education Authority (SBA) has directed students to refund fees for the third semester, calling on sharjah's private school administrations to cooperate and commit to implementing the decision.

She said the decision would apply to 116 private schools in Sharjah.

The Authority has identified two options: either collect the remaining fees in cash, or transfer them to the student's account, and deduct them from tuition fees for the next academic year.
